Star Party is the most isolated campsite at Rio Bravo Ranch. It's designed for campers who aren't simply looking for somewhere to park — they're looking for somewhere to disappear into Big Bend for a while.
Multiple sandy areas provide room to set up several tents, while the large shade structure gives your group a comfortable place to gather during the day. When evening arrives, the desert and night sky take over.
This Is a Real 4x4 Campsite.
Star Party's isolation comes with a tradeoff: getting there is part of the adventure. Please understand the road and vehicle requirements before reserving this site.
High Clearance Required
Star Party requires a capable high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicle. The road can change quickly after rainfall and should not be treated as a normal campground road.
Rough Ranch Road
The first portion of the road includes large loose rocks roughly 6 to 12 inches in size. Later sections follow a drainage and can become washed out after heavy rain.
Deep Sand
The route includes approximately 80 yards of sand where four-wheel drive is essentially mandatory.
The ranch road is bordered by catclaw, allthorn, mesquite and other desert vegetation. We keep the road reasonably trimmed, but scratches to your vehicle are possible.
If you're concerned about scratches, Star Party may not be the right campsite for you. If you're towing anything other than an overland-style trailer, Rio Bravo 1 is the better choice.

Star Party isn't about hookups, pavement or campground amenities. It's about having a comfortable place to make camp in the middle of a remarkable landscape.
The large shade structure, picnic table and fire ring give you a natural gathering place while the surrounding sandy areas provide plenty of room for tents and gear.

Location
Rio Bravo Ranch is located along scenic FM 170 near Presidio, surrounded by the remote desert, mountains and enormous skies of the Big Bend region.
